Wisconsin Naval Ship Association, Inc. (WINSA) is an organization comprised of men and women working diligently to bring the USS Canon PG-90 to Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Annual Membership Meeting - Jan 31

The 2012 Annual Membership Meeting of Wisconsin Naval Ship Association will be held at 6:15 pm at WINSA offices at 824 N. 8th Street, Sheboygan. This will be a potluck which begins at 5:30 pm. A main course will be provided by WINSA and members are encouraged to bring a dish to pass such as a dessert, salad, any favorite side dish you might have.And, of course, bring yourself! USS Canon PG-90

The Canon is an Asheville class Patrol Gunboat, built in response to the Cuban Missile Crisis. Five of Canon’s sister ships were built at Peterson Builders in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The Canon was deployed to Vietnam in 1971 as part of Operation Market Time. It was decommissioned in January 1977 and is the only surviving ship of her class in the United States.

WINSA is pleased to accept a 5' model of the USS Constitution. The ship model was originally built by Floyd Lach. It has been donated by niece Betty Nalow.Both Floyd and his wife Virginia served in the US Navy. The kit, that this model was built from, was a wedding anniversary gift from Virginia to her husband. It took a year to complete, using materials that included: wood, string, glue; paint, stencils, tweezers, razor blades, etc.  Learn more about the history of the USS Constitution.

Sheboygan's Naval Museum and Education Center

The Canon will serve as the centerpiece of The Naval Museum and Education Center. The center will highlight Sheboygan’s maritime and patriotic heritage. It will include a museum to honor combatants, veterans of all services and Wisconsin’s Naval Heritage.

Sea Cadets

WINSA supports two Sea Cadet programs which introduce American boys and girls to naval life in an effort to develop personal pride, patriotism, courage, and self-reliance. The TS Abingdon cadets are the Navy League Cadet Corp (NLCC) and are for 11 to 14 year youth.  The Navy Sea Cadets (NSCC), Vollrath Division are for 14 to 18 year olds.  Sea Cadets are authorized by the Secretary of the Navy to wear Navy uniforms appropriately marked with the Sea Cadet Corps insignia. The NLCC drill on the first and third Saturday of the month at the Aviation Heritage Center (Sheboygan County Airport) while the NSCC are just now being formed now.
